SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Fire Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Friday January 23rd at Noon (EST)\n\n\nJoin Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Fire Prevention\nThe Building codes have 3 chapters about fire safety\, as well as its own code book. (International Fire Code.) The National Fire Protection Association has its own codes for Fire\, Life/Safety\, Sprinklers and Fire Alarms. The mid-1970s show that the US had the highest death rates due to fire in the Industrialized World. Between 1977-2011 the death rate improved by over 71%. \nWhy? Due to technology (smoke alarms & detectors)\, improved education (Stop Drop and Roll)\, changes in consumer safety (fire-safe cigarettes\, fire resistant products) and changes in Code. \nThere are so many factors that go into the fire safety code that\, of course\, we can’t go over everything in one hour. So bring your specific questions\, and let’s go over those. Our goal is to have a fire safety expert on the call with us\, so please join us. \nJoin us January 23 at noon and let’s discuss this. \nICC CEU’s are available to members who join us.\nYou do not need to be a member to participate.

SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Bring Your Own Topic (custumes optional)
DESCRIPTION:Friday October 31st at Noon (est)\n \n \n Join Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Bring Your Own Topic \nIt is rare that we have 3 CODE Brews in one month. \nAlso\, once a quarter\, we like to ask you to bring your own topics to CODE Brew. It only made sense (in my mind) that the two should come together. \nDo you have a “What were they thinking?” question? Or maybe a “How do you understand this to mean?” question? Perhaps you have a code issue you haven’t come across that has stumped you? Or maybe you are just curious as to what everyone is drinking these day? \nBring whatever you are interested in\, and join us on Halloween at noon. \nCome in costume\, or just use a zoom filter!\nICC is providing 0.1 credit (1 hour) for participants who are also chapter members. To see about becoming a member\, email tinat@icc-pc.org.

SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Ethics in Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Friday October 17th at Noon (est)\n \n \n Join Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Ethics in Building \nArchitects and others in the building industry\, face some complex ethical issues that arise from the intersection of design\, business\, and social impact. For example\, balancing a client desires with public welfare – this is where value engineering can cause a stress on one’s ethics. \nAesthetics vs. Functionality can also raise ethical questions. The ethical dilemma is whether to prioritize the artistic vision or the well-being and comfort of the building’s occupants. What about Gentrification\, inclusive public spaces and historical spaces? Then there is the environmental aspects: sustainable design and material sourcing. \nArchitect must maintain a high standard of professional integrity while being transparent with a conflict of interest as well as with their experience\, skills and abilities. \nPersonal integrity is also important when it comes to billing\, time estimates and cost estimates.\nCome speak with us about your ethical dilemmas. Join us as we discuss current and future ethical questions.\n \n\nICC will give us 0.1 credit (one hour) for members of ICC-PC. \nTo get more information\, or become a member\, contact tinat@icc-pc.org

SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Healthy Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Friday October 3rd at Noon (est)\n \n \n Join Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Healthy Buildings \n \nA “healthy” building is one that is designed\, constructed\, and operated to support the physical\, mental\, and social well-being of its occupants. It goes beyond simply meeting minimum building codes and focuses on creating an environment that actively promotes health and productivity.A healthy building is one that holistically addresses these factors\, creating an environment that is not only physically safe but also supports the overall comfort\, productivity\, and well-being of the people who use it. \nFor some\, however\, “healthy buildings” have become buzz words\, diluted through over use like “going green” and “sustainable” buildings. The lack of a clear standard of what is “healthy” in a building\, as well as the complexity and cost have left many in the BCA industry unimpressed – seeing it as another in a long line of marketing gimmicks. After all\, shouldn’t all buildings be “healthy”? \nLet’s discuss the concept of healthy buildings. Have you worked on one\, or are you interested in learning more? Join us to share your experiences\, or simply come to hear what others have to say.\n\nICC will give 0.1 credit (1 hour) for participating in this training to our Members only.To see about becoming a member\, email tinat@icc-pc.org

SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Building Officials
DESCRIPTION:Friday September 19th at Noon (est)\n\n\nJoin Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Building Inspectors \nThe building industry continues to rely on building inspectors to insure the public’s health and safety in new and rehabbed buildings. They ensure that all new construction\, renovations\, and demolitions comply with a complex web of local\, state\, and national building codes\, zoning regulations\, and ordinances.\nBy enforcing these rules\, inspectors prevent dangerous and substandard construction practices. \nBuilding inspectors’ relationships with architects and builders aren’t always smooth. Sometimes\, they can be seen as an adversary\, leading to communication breakdowns and friction. \nCome join our panel as we discuss what Building Inspectors what from us\, as well as informing them on how they can help us. \n\nWe are working on getting CEU’s on these discussions.
