SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Government Work
DESCRIPTION:Friday December 5th at Noon (EST)\n \n \n Join Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Government Work \nHave you heard the saying “Close enough for government work”? It has come to mean that even though the project has flaws\, we are going to run with it. Not so in the building industry. \nTaking on a job for the government means more regulations\, more paperwork and more headaches! Is it worth it? Is there a way to deal with the head aches besides Tylenol and/or a stiff drink? \nWorking for the government\, whether local\, county\, state or federal often require extensive documentation\, audits and oversites\, inclusion\, accessibility and even prevailing wage limitations. Government projects are often viewed as long-term public assets. As a result\, there is a strong emphasis on building materials and systems with proven dependability\, low maintenance\, and a long lifespan. \nThe design must be “economical to build\, operate\, and maintain\,” with\na focus on long-term lifecycle costs rather than just initial construction\ncosts\, but still be attractive and have great aesthetics. Unless it’s a federal building after August\, of 2025\, then it needs to be classical and traditional architecture. (Trump’s executive order “Making America Beautiful Again.) \nSeem like a lot to juggle? It can be. Let’s discuss you experience with government construction. Because our membership is based in different states\, it should be educational for all! \nJoin us December 19th at noon and let’s discuss this. \n\nICC CEU’s are available to members who join us. You do not need to be a member to participate.

SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Deadline Stresses
DESCRIPTION:Friday December 5th at Noon (EST)\n \n \n Join Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Deadline Stress \nBetween the client\, who wants the project that they brought you yesterday\, done last week\, and the Government\, who wants another 30 to review the drawings\, and the contractors who are available the 3rd week next month\, but not the 4th week\, Architects can be overwhelmed by deadlines. Sometimes even the weather seems to be trying to derail your timeline. But you know this! \nHow do you handle the stress? (Besides joining us every other week at CODE Brew\, with your favorite drink?) Using tenology? Communication to manage client expectations? Delegation? Bourbon? And what do you do when that doesn’t work? \nMost people would agree the BEST way to handle it\, is before the stress shows up at your door. Come join us as we give realistic\, easy to implement ways of being proactive and heading off the stress before it hits. \n \nJoin us December 5 at noon and let’s discuss this. \n\nICC CEU’s are available to members who join us. DESCRIPTION:Friday October 31st at Noon (est)\n \n \n Join Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Bring Your Own Topic \nIt is rare that we have 3 CODE Brews in one month. \nAlso\, once a quarter\, we like to ask you to bring your own topics to CODE Brew. It only made sense (in my mind) that the two should come together. \nDo you have a “What were they thinking?” question? Or maybe a “How do you understand this to mean?” question? Perhaps you have a code issue you haven’t come across that has stumped you? Or maybe you are just curious as to what everyone is drinking these day? \nBring whatever you are interested in\, and join us on Halloween at noon. \nCome in costume\, or just use a zoom filter!\nICC is providing 0.1 credit (1 hour) for participants who are also chapter members. To see about becoming a member\, email tinat@icc-pc.org.

SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Ethics in Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Friday October 17th at Noon (est)\n \n \n Join Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Ethics in Building \nArchitects and others in the building industry\, face some complex ethical issues that arise from the intersection of design\, business\, and social impact. For example\, balancing a client desires with public welfare – this is where value engineering can cause a stress on one’s ethics. \nAesthetics vs. Functionality can also raise ethical questions. The ethical dilemma is whether to prioritize the artistic vision or the well-being and comfort of the building’s occupants. What about Gentrification\, inclusive public spaces and historical spaces? Then there is the environmental aspects: sustainable design and material sourcing. \nArchitect must maintain a high standard of professional integrity while being transparent with a conflict of interest as well as with their experience\, skills and abilities. \nPersonal integrity is also important when it comes to billing\, time estimates and cost estimates.\nCome speak with us about your ethical dilemmas. Join us as we discuss current and future ethical questions.\n \n\nICC will give us 0.1 credit (one hour) for members of ICC-PC. \nTo get more information\, or become a member\, contact tinat@icc-pc.org

SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Healthy Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Friday October 3rd at Noon (est)\n \n \n Join Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Healthy Buildings \n \nA “healthy” building is one that is designed\, constructed\, and operated to support the physical\, mental\, and social well-being of its occupants. It goes beyond simply meeting minimum building codes and focuses on creating an environment that actively promotes health and productivity.A healthy building is one that holistically addresses these factors\, creating an environment that is not only physically safe but also supports the overall comfort\, productivity\, and well-being of the people who use it. \nFor some\, however\, “healthy buildings” have become buzz words\, diluted through over use like “going green” and “sustainable” buildings. The lack of a clear standard of what is “healthy” in a building\, as well as the complexity and cost have left many in the BCA industry unimpressed – seeing it as another in a long line of marketing gimmicks. After all\, shouldn’t all buildings be “healthy”? \nLet’s discuss the concept of healthy buildings. Have you worked on one\, or are you interested in learning more? Join us to share your experiences\, or simply come to hear what others have to say.\n\nICC will give 0.1 credit (1 hour) for participating in this training to our Members only.To see about becoming a member\, email tinat@icc-pc.org

SUMMARY:CODE Brew - Building Officials
DESCRIPTION:Friday September 19th at Noon (est)\n\n\nJoin Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Building Inspectors \nThe building industry continues to rely on building inspectors to insure the public’s health and safety in new and rehabbed buildings. They ensure that all new construction\, renovations\, and demolitions comply with a complex web of local\, state\, and national building codes\, zoning regulations\, and ordinances.\nBy enforcing these rules\, inspectors prevent dangerous and substandard construction practices. \nBuilding inspectors’ relationships with architects and builders aren’t always smooth. Sometimes\, they can be seen as an adversary\, leading to communication breakdowns and friction. \nCome join our panel as we discuss what Building Inspectors what from us\, as well as informing them on how they can help us. \n\nWe are working on getting CEU’s on these discussions.

DESCRIPTION:Friday September 5th at Noon (est)\n\n\nJoin Here\n \nEvery other week we encourage members\, and those considering membership\, to join us on a zoom call with their favorite beverage. It is our time to unwind\, wrap up the week with friendly conversation\, and get to know other Professional Chapter Members. Topics for discussion include everything from code questions to office policies\, to architectural trends to which beverages we are partial to  – and everything in between.\nTopic: Phased Projects\nA phased project in BCA refers to a project that is broken down into distinct\, sequential stages. Instead of all work being done at once\, the project is planned and executed in a series of steps. This approach is often used for large\, complex projects to manage risk\, secure funding\, and ensure compliance.\nPhased projects can be done for several reasons. Financial risk management\, for logistical reason\, because of timing and addressing community feedback are all reasons for making a phased project. There are positives and negatives for doing a project this way.\nHave you done phased projects? Did you find them to a wonderful way to break down larger projects\, or did the phasing make things more difficult? Come tell us about your experience on September 5th at noon. \nWe are working on getting CEU’s on these discussions.
